Athlete Starter Kit · grades 7–9

Get ready to be recruited — starting now

The years before high school recruiting are when the groundwork gets laid. Build your athletic résumé, follow a grade-by-grade plan, and set up the habits that make you easy to take seriously later — all off the field, all private. For 7th, 8th, and 9th graders.

The grades 7–9 roadmap

What to work on now — habits, grades, and groundwork. No coach outreach; recruiting rules bar that this early anyway.

Grade 7
  • Play more than one sport

Multi-sport athletes develop better and burn out less. There is no rush to specialize — enjoy the game and build a broad athletic base.

Grade 8
  • Start a dedicated sport account

Set up one clean account just for your sport — you will use it through high school. Keep it positive from day one; you are building a record, not chasing followers.

Grade 9
  • Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center

The NCAA recommends registering before ninth grade at eligibilitycenter.org. It is free to start with a Profile Page; upgrade to certification when D1/D2 interest is real.

What’s included

Your athletic résumé

Add every team you’ve played for — school, club, travel, tournament — with coach, location, positions, years, records, rankings, your stats, and awards. All in one place, growing year over year.

Grades 7–9 roadmap

A grade-by-grade plan of what to do now: the habits, grades, and groundwork that get you ready before recruiting rules even allow coach contact.

Private by default

This is preliminary — no coaches, no recruiters. It’s your athlete’s private space to get positioned and organized. You choose if and when to share, later.

Carries over

Everything you build here flows straight into the full recruiting profile if you upgrade to the Athlete package later — nothing to redo.

Social media, done right

The same athlete, two posts

Coaches look up recruits online before they ever reach out. One clean, sport-only account can help you; a careless post can quietly end a conversation before it starts. Tap through the two examples — then get the full playbook in the Starter Kit’s Social Media Etiquette guide.

  • Profanity and trash talk
  • Tagged party / substance content
  • Handle has no name or grad year — hard to find

Illustrative examples. The full guide covers platform-by-platform do’s and don’ts, a pre-post checklist, and a clean-up walkthrough — part of the Athlete Starter Kit.

How we handle your student’s data

What we collect and why. When your athlete builds their résumé, we save the details they enter - the teams they’ve played for, their coaches, locations, positions, years, records, rankings, stats, and awards - plus the email used to set up the account. We use this only to build and show their résumé. We do not sell your student’s information, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not add anyone to marketing lists.

You’re in control. As a parent or guardian, you can review everything we’ve stored about your student, correct it, or delete it any time - from your account or by emailing privacy@certihomes.com. We delete your student’s résumé when you close the account. If your student is under 13, we ask for your permission before they enter any résumé information, and we won’t collect it without your okay.

Who can see it. Your student and your family can see the résumé, and a few of our staff can access it to run the product and help with support. Our payment processor handles your checkout securely (they see the card details, not us), and we use standard hosting and email providers to operate the site. No one else gets it, and it is never sold or used to target ads.

Read the full Privacy Policy for how we handle information about minors.
